Coronavirus lockdown: Ray of hope for delivery boys in Assam's Jorhat

The out Of employment Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon and Flipkart delivery boys will now not be jobless with the Jorhat district administration in eastern Assam going to rope them certain delivery of groceries to the people's doorsteps during coronavirus lockdown period.

Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said soon people Donor have to leave of their homes to shop for essentials as phone numbers would be furnished in order that people can contact these boys to deliver their groceries at doorstep.

"We are functioning on this and going to use the vast numbers of e-commerce delivery boys like Amazon who are now sitting idle to provide grocery items to the people here," Korati said.

A youth who delivers for one among the e-commerce platforms said he was very happy about this development.

"With the stopping of orders, I even have become completely jobless. Earlier I used to earn anything beween Rs 100 to Rs 500 and my family used to subsist on this. Now finally there's a ray of hope," he said

A storekeeper who is on a listing received by this correspondent said they were in touch with the district administration which Swiggy snd Zomato delivery boys would drop the groceries at doorstep.

Supply is probably going start from Saturday.

On Thursday, the district administration had given a notice during which areas had been demarcated for people to buy and stores to open on particular days during a bid to stop crowding within the stores.

However, crowding was still a problem with people coming to buy and huge queues were seen forming ahead of retailers.
